Panamanian youngster was a conjoined twin but sister did not survive surgery to separate them
A toddler who was born with three legs has been flown to the US for surgery to have two of the limbs removed.
Ana Paula, 22 months, was a conjoined twin, but her sister did not survive surgery to separate them.
Just one of Ana's legs is functional so surgeons at Shriners children's hospital, Los Angeles, will remove the two non-working limbs and fit a prosthetic to improve her mobility.
Ana and her mum Lleana Monroy were flown from Panama thanks to charity the Children of War Foundation, Russian video news agency Ruptly reports .
Lleana said: "The fact that she is a girl with three legs is not common. And yes, I think the foundation accepted Ana because the condition is not so common.
“At the same time, the surgeons will gain experience in this field whilst helping my daughter too."
She added: “Ana is starting with therapy, so she can adapt to the legs which are functional, and then when they remove the leg which is not functional through surgery, a prosthetic leg will be added so she will be able to gradually learn to walk." | DailyMirror on Facebook
